Report of activities, 2017, for Yukon tectonic evolution – late Mesozoic to Tertiary : GEM2 Cordillera project / D.A. Kellett … [et al.]. : M183-2/8306E-PDF

“Distinct rock assemblages (terranes) of Devonian to Triassic age were accreted to the northern Cordillera during Early Jurassic, including significant mineral deposits. However, these terranes have been displaced significantly since the Early Jurassic. The upper crustal processes that modified these mineral-endowed terranes are poorly understood, yet are critical for controlling the setting of formation, and subsequent translation of base metal mineralization. This GEM2 research activity is designed to address this gap in our knowledge of the Cordillera by focusing on the upper crustal processes that occurred from the Early Jurassic. To achieve this goal, we are applying low temperature (<400 °C) thermochronology methods including Ar/Ar, K/Ar, U-Th/He and fission track dating. This report outlines 2017 activities in understanding these syn- to post-accretion geological processes, including formation of sedimentary basins, differential exhumation, fluid events and translation of terranes along faults”--Provided by publisher.
