"Two eider populations breed in the western Canadian Arctic and winter in the Bering Sea: the Pacific subspecies of the Common Eider Somateria mollissima v-nigra and the western Arctic population of the King Eider S. spectabilis. Both eiders are harvested primarily in the spring by the Aboriginal people of northern communities and to a small extent in faIl by sport hunters. Some eggs of the colonially nesting Common Eider are also taken.
