Chemical residues in Canadian game birds / Birgit M. Braune ... [et al.]. : CW69-5/124E-PDF

"This report reviews data on chemical residues in Canadian game birds. Past efforts on surveying residues in game birds and the health hazards posed by toxic chemicals to game birds and their consumers are discussed. The majority of residue surveys conducted in Canada focused on mercury, DDT, and PCB contamination. Although information is available for a large spectrum of contaminants, data are often limited for compounds other than those mentioned above. Most of the information was collected prior to 1975 in areas of known or suspected contamination. Important data gaps, thus, exist. Game birds can concentrate chemical residues to levels of concern for their health and that of their consumers. Although estimates of the controlled harvests are available, there is little information on the native use of wildlife as food resources. More information is needed to assess the health hazard from consumption of contaminated game by native populations"--Abstract, p. iv.
