Waterfowl surveys along the Alaska Highway southern Yukon, spring and summer 1989 and suggestions for an annual trend survey / Wendy A.C. Nixon, Joyce Majiski, Jim Hawkings. : CW69-5/159E-PDF
"Multiple surveys on 20 selected wetlands were conducted in May 1989 to determine their suitability for waterfowl population trends and to document waterfowl productivity in that year. Mean population estimates were highly variable between surveys and among waterbodies. Scaup species, American widgeon and Mallards were the most abundant species. Surveys of this magnitude and frequency are not sensitive enough to be relied upon for trend surveys. Increasing the number of wetlands surveyed or increasing the number of replicates will lower the confidence limits substantially. The logistical and financial constraints of intensifying the surveys are discussed"--Abstract.
