"This is a small-bodied minnow species that is restricted in Canada to the Milk River of southern Alberta. It is a habitat specialist found in shallow zones of turbid prairie waters with high seasonal flow variability and unstable fine sediments. It is threatened by flow management resulting from water diversions in the US and a warming and drying climate with negative impacts on habitat quantity and quality. Despite meeting criteria for Endangered, the severity of the threats is uncertain and there is no evidence of a decline in abundance since the previous assessment"--Assessment Summary – November 2017, p. iii.
