The aerial survey/search-efforts were conducted to determine the status of both the Peary caribou (Rangifer tarandus pearyl) population and the muskox (Ovibosmoschatus) population within the Bathurst Island complex, with an emphasis on determining the magnitudes of the die-offs during winter 1995/96. ... The Peary caribou population declined in size by ca. 85% and the muskox population by ca. 70% from summer 1994 to summer 1996.
