"In Nova Scotia, the last province-wide gull survey was conducted in 1987 (Lock, unpublished data). Aside from extrapolations made from neighbouring states and provinces and scattered data from some colonies (e.g. Boot Island; C. M. Mackinnon, Canadian Wildlife Service - Atlantic Region, unpublished data), little is known about the status of the gull population in Nova Scotia since that survey. This is disconcerting as gulls are considered one of the most significant threats to the Endangered Roseate Tern (Sterna dougallii) (Whittam 1999)"--Introd.
