| 520 | |a"PFOA is a man-made compound that does not occur naturally in the environment. It is used in the manufacture of stain/water-resistant coatings for various consumer products and in specialized chemical applications, such as fire-fighting foams, hydraulic fluids, and carpet spot removers. Environmental concentrations, and therefore potential exposure levels, may be higher in areas near facilities using high amounts of PFOA and near locations with extinguished fires if PFOA-containing fire-fighting foams were used. This guideline technical document reviews and assesses all identified health risks associated with PFOA in drinking water. It incorporates available studies and approaches and takes into consideration the availability of appropriate treatment technology"--Executive summary, p. 1. |
