“As part of the 175th anniversary of the Geological Survey of Canada (GSC), staff of the Booth Street Complex in Ottawa participated in the Doors Open 2017 event. The near surface geophysics group showcased reflection seismology by explaining this geophysical method and displaying various tools like geophones, seismic sources and data recorders. This poster explains the different types of seismic waves, their type of movement in the subsurface and their use in creating images of the ground beneath our feet. Explanations are delivered with few words and many sketches. It is also described how the data recorded in the field are processed to create the seismic images, and one interpreted image of the subsurface is shown as the final product"--provided by publisher.
