“As part of the 175th anniversary of the Geological Survey of Canada (GSC), staff of the Booth Street Complex in Ottawa participated in the Doors Open 2017 event. The near surface geophysics group showcased reflection seismology by displaying examples from the Geoscience Programs. This poster shows contributions of reflection seismology to Geoscience Programs of the federal Government. Shear-wave seismic images show different layers in the sediments of the subsurface and the depth of the bedrock. At the same time, properties of the soil such as shear-wave velocity can be obtained. These are essential for mapping potential landslides and calculating ground movement in case of earthquakes"--provided by publisher.
