"As Canada transitions to a low-carbon economy, energy will play a key role in meeting its collective commitment, with energy production and use accounting for over 80 percent of Canada’s GHG emissions. One-third of targeted PCF emissions reductions can be achieved through ambitious energy efficiency measures in the buildings, industrial and transportation sectors, as well as through federal government leadership in greening its own operations. Drilling further down into the numbers, 17% of Canada’s GHG emissions come from residential, commercial and institutional buildings, making the Buildings sector an important area of opportunity with potential GHG emissions reductions of over 20MT"--Background, page 1.
