"This comparative study of Canadian and united States manufacturing industries reflects the Council's continuing research into reasons for persistent differences in levels of economic performance between the two countries. The intention was to move to a finer level of industry classification than that attempted previously. Data are developed on price, output, input and productivity differences in the two countries for a 30-industry sample within manufacturing, with the analysis attempting an explanation of performance differences"--Preface, p. iii.
