Improving material movement through the manufacturing cycle / by James A. Brown in association with B.D. Beamish. : EC22-4/5-1965E-PDF
"Industry is a mass flow of materials from the mine, forest, field and ocean to the ultimate consumer. In this flow the materials are handled, held and stored in some cases hundreds of times as they move through the manufacturing cycle before becoming finished products. Some of the material handling operations are fairly obvious but many others are hidden. They all create costs that represent a large proportion of the total costs of the manufactured article. It is the purpose of this paper to describe how firms might reduce or eliminate material handling and speed up the movement of material through the process and to the customer. Particular attention will be directed to recent developments in this field"--Introd., p. 1.
