"This supplement gives an overview of surface and borehole geophysical methods useful in evaluating the distribution of rock and soil types, and of rock fractures at open pit sites. In regard to surface geophysics, emphasis is placed on do-it-yourself methods which operate with relatively inexpensive commercial equipment and are easy to use on simple geological structures. Borehole geophysical methods, such as down-hole and intra-hole seismics, require a larger investment in logging equipment and a more complex analysis. Types of equipment are described and guidance is given in assessing possible benefits and costs of borehole logging for open pit sites"--Summary.
