520 | 3 |a"A two-stage thermal and catalytic hydrocracking process of upgrading Athabasca bitumen is described. In the first stage, the bitumen is treated in the presence of excess hydrogen in a tubular reactor at 13.90 MPa and 450°C. A heavy-oil product is separated and a portion is recycled to the reactor. The light-oil product in vapour form is further treated in a vapour-phase catalytic reactor to remove sulphur and nitrogen compounds. The second stage of this process is simulated by treating the light oil once-through in a bench-scale fixed-bed catalytic reactor. The results for catalytic treatment at 13.90 MPa and 430°C suggest that the specifications of reformer naphtha feedstock, fuel oils and cat-cracking gas-oil feedstock can be met. Three different catalysts, namely, Co-Mo on alumina, Ni-Mo on alumina and Ni-W on alumina, are evaluated in the catalytic hydrocracking stage and their selectivities are compared"--Abstract, p. i. |
