"Our steadily advancing science and technology is providing us with the tools to monitor many of these environmental changes and to predict the ecological consequences of our actions. We have the ability to anticipate the adverse impacts of our activities on the environment. ... We must plan to adapt ourselves to those changes we can't influence and carefully and thoughtfully manage the ones that we can. Building upon the pronouncement of Herodotus, our watchword as responsible stewards of the environment must be "Change is inevitable, but not intractable".--p. 12.
