"The release of lead from ceramic foodware into contained foods or beverages has been known to cause lead poisoning in Canada and elsewhere and is the subject of international concern. A study has been undertaken in the Mineral Sciences Laboratories, CANMET, to assess the instability of typical Canadian pottery glazes under conditions simulating those encountered in domestic use. The objective of this study is to examine the mechanisms of Pb release and stabilization as a contribution to the development of stable, safe glaze"--Abstract, p. i.
