"One of the most difficult analyses the operational forecaster has to perform is the delineation of the precipitation areas over the Pacific. ... The recent installation of the SCEPTRE rad at Abbotsford has helped marginally. ... The GOES satellite data effectively covers the Pacific two or more days upstream from the BC regions. If quantitative methods can be developed to infer precipitation areas from the satellite data alone or by transferring from radar to satellite data, then a great deal of uncertainty over the Pacific will be removed."
