"The computer modelling community both in the U.S. and Canada has for years used the S1 score as the primary support material to indicated the gradual improvement of computer produced guidance. The contention being that a decrease in the S1 score indicates and improvement in the computer produced guidance. .. A recent numerical weather prediction training workshop given by the Training Branch at PWC in mid February again stimulated discussion on S1 scores and their interpretation."
