"In this Statement, we focus on the effects that this transformation has had on the employment of Canadians. The expansion of service employment has been striking. In the late 1940s, 60 per cent of the Canadian labour force worked in the goods sector - natural resources, manufacturing, and construction. Today - barely one work life later - over 70 per cent of workers are employed in services. And the shift is far from over: during the 1980s, virtually all of the net job creation in this country took place in the service sector"--Introduction, page [1].
