"The relative concentrations of essential fatty acids (EPA) in different size fractions of planktonic organisms were determined in six coastal lakes. These size-dependent trajectories of specific fatty acid concentrations from seston to macrozooplankton are important for ecosystem function. This is because planktivorous fish and some invertebrates are known to be size—selective predators"--Abstract.
