"This engineering report presents a study performed to fulfill the requirements of contract 135 V, 36001-3-2165 "Conceptual Design Study - Reduced Cost SARSAT 406 MHz Emergency Beacon". The scope of this report is confined to analyzing methods and the impact of each to reduce the production cost of the electronics module developed by Bristol Aerospace Limited for experimental 406 MHz beacons. These methods are restricted to design changes of the electronics module and its enclosure. The design changes are initiated by either a system specification change or by modification of a design concept. The costs presented in this report are sufficiently accurate for relative cost comparisons but are not intended as an offer to manufacture or to be construed as an indication of selling price. They have been formulated on a premise that an appropriate facility would be used for production.
