"The large scale use of the pesticide DDT occurred in Point Pelee National Park between 1948 and 1967 for mosquito control in recreational areas and pest control in the former apple orchards. By the late 1990's, it was expected that the DDT and its degradation products DDD and DDE would no longer exist at Point Pelee. However, during 1998 these compounds were detected in the shallow soil at several locations within the Park"--Abstract.
