520 |a"Experiments were conducted to test the feasibility of using biofilters for removing dissolved heavy metals from highway runoff. Biofilm was allowed to develop on fine gravel in cylindrical filters as well as on the bottom of an annular flume. Synthetic stormwater containing dissolved copper, lead and zinc was used in the tests which showed that the biofilm was effective in removing all three metals"--Abstract.
