"Subaqueous capping has become an important non-removal remedial technology for contaminated sediments. Cost comparisons indicate that capping is the least-cost alternative when compared with other forms of handling contaminated sediment, e.g. dredging, treatment and upland disposal. Capping projects of contaminated dredged material and in-situ sediments began in the late 1970s and experience has been gained under a variety of site conditions"--Introduction.
