520 |a"A multi-residue procedure was developed for the simultaneous determination of neutral and acidic environmental contaminants including polychlorinated biphenyls, organochlorinated insecticides, chlorobenzenes, polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons, and chlorophenols in suspended sediments, at ng/g levels. This method involved an ultrasonic extraction of the sample sequentially at pH 7 and 2, silica gel column cleanup and fractionation, and final analysis by gas chromatography using electron-capture and mass spectrometric detectors. Six surrogates and one internal standard were added to the sample or the sample extract at various stages to monitor the recoveries of the analytes. Performance indicators such as method precision, accuracy and detection limits are presented. The procedure has been applied to the analysis of sediment samples in the Niagara River Water Quality Monitoring Program"--Abstract.
