The economic feasibility of the gypsy moth eradication program in British Columbia / Baojing Sun, Bryan E.C. Bogdanski, Brian Van Hezewijk. : Fo143-2/450E-PDF
"The purpose of this study is to evaluate the net benefits of current efforts to prevent gypsy moth (GM) establishment in British Columbia. In this study we compared the expected net economic losses from damaged trees and other vegetation, and the increased burden of quarantine if the prevention program was abandoned, to the on-going costs of the prevention program. We considered commercial timber and related carbon emissions, Christmas trees, nursery trees, agricultural crops, and urban street trees in our assessment of potential damage from GM outbreaks. We included all areas of British Columbia with suitable habitat for the GM. We also considered potential management responses to GM outbreaks by municipal managers, farmers, and unaffected jurisdictions"--Executive summary, page iv.
