"Toxic substance loading from industrial and municipal discharges into waterways has detrimental effects on the indigenous biota. Proper monitoring strategies for the detection of sporadic toxicant discharge effects would help design effective regulatory programs. This article describes the effective use of acute and chronic toxicity bioassays to detect the effects of industrial discharges containing electrolytes.
