520 |a"It is known that flocculation significantly alters the settling characteristics of fine-grained suspended sediment. This has important consequences for sediment transport modelling of pathways, fate and effects of sediment-associated contaminants. Traditional sediment sizing techniques are indirect methods which make no attempt to maintain, the original grain-size distribution. This report provides an inexpensive, non-destructive, direct observation alternate method of sediment sizing. This method has demonstrated that flocculation is an important process occurring in rivers which produces relatively stable flocs"--Management Perspective.
