"As a result of advances in computer technology, the cost of computation is decreasing approximately ten-fold per decade. In the manufacturing industries, this is fostering the development of widespread changes in design and manufacturing techniques, referred to as Computer Aided Design and Computer Aided Manufacturing, or CAD/CAM, at an unprecedented rate. This presents both a challenge and an opportunity for manufacturing companies and industrialized countries who wish to maintain or advance their relative positions as suppliers of manufactured goods of virtually all kinds"--Abstract.
