"Antifouling paints are specifically designed to keep watercraft and aquatic structures free of attached aquatic organisms by continuously releasing a small and constant amount of biocide(s) to discourage the development of biofouling organisms on the surface of hulls and structures (French and Evans, 1986). Therefore, from the perspective of aquatic toxicology, antifouling biocides are toxic chemicals that are deliberately introduced into the aquatic environment in order to prevent or alleviate the problems caused by fouling organisms"--Introduction.
