"The mission's objective was to promote increased commercial exchanges between Canada and the countries of the South Pacific. The timing of the mission was considered to be opportune because of a number of factors -- including tariff preferences applicable to imports from Canada, currency exchange rate movements favourable to Canada, and generally improved access for imports into Australia and New Zealand -- which appeared conducive to a new Canadian export thrust into these markets"--Summary, page 1.
