Analysis of the Cape Breton inshore fishery for snow crab, 1980 / by Robert W. Elner and David A. Robichaud. : Fs70-8/81-40E-PDF

"Biological assessments are presented for the 1980 Cape Breton snow crab season based on data derived from fishermen's logbooks, tagging studies and in-port and at-sea sampling, growth of commercial-size stock plus recruitment (sub0legal male crabs moulting into legal size) during the fishing season and inter-season growth and recruitment have been used to estimate the available commercial biomass and TAC's for the 1981 season for 5 of the 7 snow crab management areas around Cape Breton. A marked decline of most Cape Breton stocks over the past 3 years indicates that the accumulated virgin biomass is being rapidly depleted and that the future fishery will depend increasingly on new recruits. Annual biomass additions due to growth and recruitment appear to be variable in magnitude"--Abstract.
