520 |a"Landings have declined steadily from a high of 24,000 t in 1973 to a low of less than 4000 t in 1980. This fishery has been conducted mainly by inshore gillnets and offshore otter trawlers particularly in NAFO Div. 3K, however, in the more recent years the inshore gillnet fishery for witch flounder in this area produced negligible proportions. Biomass surveys since 1978 have shown that more than 75% of this stock is located in Div. 3K and biomass estimates since that time appear to be relatively stable. This apparent stability has been generated by average annual removals through fishing of 8000 t which is very close to F0.1"--Abstract.
