"The exchange of toxic organic contaminants across the air-water interface plays an important role in determining their fate in the environment. Without understanding the processes that control the exchange of chemicals across this interface it will be difficult to calibrate models to predict the direction or magnitude of the exchange in natural environments. The NWRI Gas Transfer Flume was designed specifically to examine wave mechanics, boundary layer turbulence and chemical parameters influencing the exchange of toxic organic chemicals across the air-water interface. This report outlines the physical and technical aspects of the construction and operation of this unique facility"--Management perspective, page i.
