5203 |a"Phenanthrene was used as a model environmental contaminant in laboratory experiments to examine its interactions within the aquatic environment. An initial adsorption of 85% of phenanthrene by bacteria and bacterial aggregates was observed. Moreover, the adsorption by bacteria was found to increase with increased bacterial mass and associated organic matter. Implications of the data as they relate to the movements of environmental contaminants are discussed"--Abstract.
