520 |a"Ice is an important factor in the design of engineering structures and in the planning of water resource developments throughout Canada. Recognizing this importance, the Department of Energy, Mines and Resources, Inland Waters Branch, Ice and Snow Research Committee, has assigned to H. G. Acres Limited the preparation of a review of the current state of ice technology, identification of deficiencies in present knowledge, an assessment of the overall economic impact of ice on a national scale and the ordering of ice research needs and priorities. … This report is intended to assist in achieving the objective of a well-designed research program. In it, various ice problems in Canada are examined, and, where possible, the economic significance of these problems is estimated. From this information an order of priorities of research has been obtained in the form of a set of overall programs of research"--Introduction, pages 1, 2.
