"Information on glaciers throughout Canada has been collected over the years under the auspices of the Canadian Glacier Inventory Project. With the increased industrial activity in the High Arctic and, in particular, because of offshore installations and shipping, there is a renewed demand for information on those glaciers and ice shelves that may contribute to offshore problems and on the glaciological conditions which sustain them. In response to requests from the private sector and with the encouragement of the Working Group on Ice of the Canadian Advisory Committee on Remote Sensing, the decision was made to make the information on the Ellesmere Island glaciers and ice shelves more widely available. Readers should note that there is a companion bibliography in the series entitled "Ice Islands of the Arctic Ocean""--Abstract, page v.
