"References to reports on ice islands in the Arctic Ocean have long been part of the information files of the Canadian Glacier Inventory Project due to their relevance to the glaciology of northern Ellesmere Island from whose ice shelves most of the islands derive. During the course of their occupation as drifting scientific stations, many studies have been done on the composition and behaviour of these islands.
