Heavy metal contamination in shellfish with emphasis on zinc contamination of the Pacific oyster, Crassostrea gigas / by H. Nelson and D. Goyette. : En42-1/76-2E-PDF
"A shellfish heavy-metal monitoring program was conducted in 1973 in those coastal areas of British Columbia where the pulp and paper industry is involved in groundwood bleaching. A brightening agent in the bleaching process resulted in a considerable amount of zinc entering receiving waters and the biosphere. The bioaccumulation of zinc by the Pacific oyster prompted the industry to convert to a new bleaching compound which would largely eliminate zinc from the effluent discharges"--Abstract.
