Heavy metals in clastic stream sediments of the Yakoun River drainage and other B.C. streams / by George Derksen. : En40-240/84-05E-PDF

"A monitoring program was conducted to assess sediment heavy metal levels in the Yakoun River and tributary streams adjacent to a proposed gold mine property. Several other British Columbia streams were also sampled to establish a data base to compare to. Intergravel fine sediments from clastic stream beds typical of salmon spawning areas were effectively sampled with a stainless steel syringe sampler. Barbie Creek which drains the area surrounding the mine property had the highest overall mean mercury and arsenic concentrations compared to the other streams sampled by the syringe method. The results indicate that both seasonal differences and sampler methodology are important considerations when establishing baseline heavy metal sediment levels"--Abstract, page i.
