5203 |a"In June, 1977, the Environmental Protection Service conducted an environmental survey to assess the effects of the unconfined discharge of mill tailings from Wesfrob Mines Limited into Tasu Sound, Queen Charlotte Islands, British Columbia. Tailings from the 6000 dry metric tons per day iron-copper dressing plant have been dischargedd directly to Tasu Sound since 1967. The survey program included: water column transmissibility profiles; phytoplankton productivity measurements; sediment and fauna sampling and analyses for heavy metals; deep benthic trawling; and an examination of the intertidal zone in the proximity of the outfall. This report presents the results of the survey and conclusions based upon these results"--Abstract, page i.
