"The local area wind model, BOLON\1, is evaluated relative to its ability to simulate mesoscale wind phenomena common to coastal British Columbia. Case studies selected for analysis indicate varying degrees of success in this respect. The model performed well in terms of direction in simulating channelling and funnelling effects through Howe Sound during an Arctic outbreak, however, wind speeds were greatly underestimated. The model performed better in terms of both speed and direction in simulating thermal forcing as shown in the case of a sea breeze in the Lower Fraser Valley"--Abstract.
