5203 |a"For the second year in a row, the 30,000 t TAG for 4X cod was not caught; 1984 landings were 25,262 t. Fish aged 3-5 comprised the largest proportion of the catch numbers, while full recruitment to the fishery occurred at age 5. Research vessel surveys suggest that 5+ numbers have been relatively stable since the late '70s; however, RV biomass appears to be declining. A new standardized commercial catch rate series was developed for the major 4X gear/tonnage class categories; the series was consistent with the individual catch rate trends and showed a monotonic decline since 1978. For the first time, all cod in 4X were assumed to comprise a unit stock, thus enabling an analytical assessment to be performed"--Abstract.
