"This report addresses the problem of detecting and localizing whales located in a noisy seaway with passive acoustic monitoring (PAM) systems reporting the detections in real time. This general problem is methodologically addressed using the detection theory, and relevant formulas to assess the PAM performance are provided. The method is applied to the special case of North Atlantic right whales (NARW) in the Honguedo strait seaway of the Gulf of St. Lawrence"--Abstract.
