5203 |a"Environmental Protection conducted a monitoring program on Goosly Lake in May and June 1987, to determine the impact of the Equity Silver mine's discharge. A sedimentological approach was taken to evaluate the lake response to the mine effluent. Increased sulphate and decreased alkalinity was observed in the lake bottom water quality. A contamination factor of 3.5 for cadmium was detected in Goosly Lake sediments. The siltcheck pond sediments were effective in removing only copper from the mine effluent. Further studies are needed to evaluate the biological significance of elevated metal concentrations in the lake bottom sediments"--Abstract, page i.
