"This document reflects work done by a project team from the National Archives of Canada, Communications Canada, Comterm Inc., and Provenance Inc. It is public domain and may be freely copied and distributed providing that the source is duly credited. It may not be sold. The purpose of this document is to define the functional requirements for a type of application software that will manage multi-media records effectively in a typical automated office system. In some areas, the document also reflects the particular legal and policy requirements for automated office systems within the Government of Canada--in particular the National Archives of Canada Act (1987) and Treasury Board policies on information holdings management and on security (1989)"--Introduction, page 4.
