Pseudo-rate control of very flexible communications satellites / by P.C. Hughes, T.M. Abdel-Ramen. : Co24-446/1975E-PDF

"This report is concerned with the investigation of pseudo-rate control of very flexible satellites. It is particularly applicable to communications satellites because of their high power demands. The nondimensional equations are first derived in Section 2, then general design considerations including practical choices of system parameters are carried out in Section 3. Equations that reveal the effects of the flexibility parameters on the switching conditions of the controller are derived in Section 4. The results obtained show in a qualitative manner how the interaction increases as the flexible appendage grows, as the unconstrained natural frequency decreases, as the damping factor decreases, and as the excitation increases. The effect of structural flexibility on fuel consumption and stability is then investigated in Sections 5 and 6"--Summary.
