"The Canadian Hydrographic Service, with headquarters at Ottawa and regional offices at Dartmouth, N.S., Victoria, B.C. and Burlington, Ontario, has the important task of gathering and publishing the topographic and hydrographic data and marine navigational information on Canada's navigable waters and adjoining international waters essential to the safe, orderly and efficient conduct of commercial, recreational and defence shipping. This paper reviews, briefly, the nature of this task and the resources devoted to the achievement of the overall objectives then describes, in rather more detail, the task of charting the nation's small craft waterways for recreational boaters"--Abstract.
