"In keeping with the intent of this Inquiry to consider only technical matters for the control of discharges from the food processing, and agriculturally oriented industries as well as those remaining industrial sectors not covered at previous Inquiries, to prevent pollution of the water and of land and/or air, Environment Canada, in this brief, has assembled technical information and other relevant data which it is hoped will be useful to the Pollution Control Branch to carry out its mandate. For the Host part, the technical information presented in this brief is the direct result of data gathered through investigations and studies conducted by Environment Canada personnel; in particular, the data presented on waste characterization and treatment of fish processing plant effluents and on toxicity of various waste parameters on fish"--Foreword.
